[ISP] Pedestrian Struck on Wabash Avenue--No serious injury
Start Date: 1/17/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/17/2014
Entry Description

Vigo County—This morning at 8:55, on-duty Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jason Owen was on Wabash Avenue just east of 5th Street in downtown Terre Haute when he heard a loud noise behind him. As Owen looked in his rearview mirror, he noticed a female lying on the ground in front of a stopped vehicle.

Further investigation revealed a 2012 Ford van driven by 74-year-old George Taylor of Marshall, Illinois was southbound on 5th Street approaching Wabash Avenue. A small group of pedestrians were walking northbound on 5th Street at Wabash Avenue. As Taylor attempted a left turn onto Wabash Avenue, he struck 22-year-old Chelsea Stanley of Fishers, IN. Most likely, the noise Owen heard was the van striking Stanley, as the center area of the van’s grill was heavily damaged.

Chelsea Stanley was examined at the scene by Terre Haute Fire Department and refused further medical assistance. She continued on her way to Indiana State University. No citations were issued.

The Terre Haute Police Department also assisted at the scene.
