Start Date: 1/29/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/29/2014
Entry Description
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) and State Senator David Long (R-Fort Wayne) were recognized by the Indiana Conservation Alliance (INCA) as co-recipients of their 2013 Legislator of the Year Award during Tuesday’s Conservation Day at the Statehouse.

“As a legislator, protecting our environment to promote a higher quality of life for all Hoosiers and leave a lasting legacy for our children and grandchildren is a priority,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “This recognition is appreciated, and we will continue to collaborate with the INCA to keep Indiana moving forward.”

Rep. Karickhoff received this award for his conservation efforts during the 2013 legislative session, specifically for an amendment he added to the state’s budget which allocates additional funds for the Clean Water Indiana Program under the Soil Conservation Division and his work on the Sustainable Natural Resources Task Force. The award was presented by Paula Baldwin, District Supervisor of the Marion County Soil and Water District.

Conservation Day was sponsored by the INCA and strives to give Hoosiers concerned about the future of Indiana’s natural resources an opportunity to have their voices heard at the Statehouse.

The INCA consists of more than 25 organizations, including the Hoosier Environmental Council, Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners Association, Indian Recycling Coalition, Indiana Wildlife Federation, Izaak Walton League, Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy. These groups are focused on permanent public funding for land, water and wildlife conservation in Indiana to protect natural resources in order to provide cleaner water and more public land for families to enjoy outdoor activities.

State Rep. Mike Karickhoff serves as Budget Subcommittee Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and on the Natural Resources Committee.  He is also the vice-chair of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Rep. Karickhoff represents portions of Howard and Grant counties, most of the city of Kokomo and the towns of Swayzee and Greentown.
