RELEASE: Stoops measure seeking septic system study gains Senate approval
Start Date: 2/4/2014 All Day
End Date: 2/4/2014
Entry Description

INDIANAPOLIS— On Monday, the Senate approved Senate Bill (SB) 212, a proposal authored by State Senator Mark Stoops (D-Bloomington) to assign a study on statewide standards for sewage disposal systems.

The study would address statewide standards for sewage disposal systems such as septic tanks and related facilities and devices. It would also review disposal systems that operate using alternative technologies that have shown increased efficiency over some traditional systems.

“By proactively researching and approving new, effective technologies for septic and sewer systems, this measure will be an important advancement toward improved waste management and water quality in the state of Indiana,” said Sen. Stoops.

The Legislative Council would determine the appropriate committee for the study. The Legislative Council is a statutory council composed of 16 legislators that is responsible for coordinating and assisting with many of the functions of the legislative branch. The President Pro Tempore of the Senate serves as Chairman in odd-numbered years, while the Speaker of the House serves as chairman in even-numbered years.

The measure passed the Senate by a vote of 47-1 and now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

Sen. Stoops represents Indiana Senate District 40, which includes portions of Monroe County, including the City of Bloomington. For more information on Sen. Stoops, his legislative agenda or other State Senate business call 1-800-382-9467 or visit
