Start Date: 2/16/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 2/16/2014
Entry Description

Fulton County – Yesterday, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Ben Reason was conducting road patrol duties on State Road 25 near Fulton County Road 500 South. He allegedly clocked, with radar, a 2005 Hyundai passenger car traveling 66 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone. Reason initiated a traffic stop on the Hyundai near Fulton County Road 600 South. The driver later identified as Misty Renee Griffin, 29, Michigan City, IN, did not possess any identification and purportedly provided Reason with false identifiers. While Trooper Reason was confirming the information provided by Griffin and waiting for assisting officers, Griffin put the Hyundai in gear and drove southbound on State Road 25 at speeds near 80 miles per hour.

With the emergency lighting and siren activated on his fully marked police car, Trooper Reason pursued the Hyundai for approximately seven minutes. The chase ended when the Hyundai struck stop sticks deployed by Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy John O’Connor near State Road 25 and Cass County Road 350 North. Officers took Griffin into custody without further incident.

A male passenger identified Rogelio Felipe Pedro, 42, Logansport, IN, allegedly refused to follow officers’ commands to show his hands and exit the Hyundai. Pedro purportedly forcibly resisted Deputy O’Connor when the officer attempted to take him out of the car. The officer utilized his police training and was able to handcuff Pedro and place him under arrest.

Griffin is incarcerated in Fulton County Jail. She faces felony charges for resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, and identity deception. She also faces a misdemeanor charge for failure to identify. The investigation also revealed she was wanted on two felony warrants issued out of LaPorte County, IN. Pedro was incarcerated in the Fulton County for resisting law enforcement.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Halterman also assisted with this investigation.
