[R33] Indiana House celebrates FFA page day
Start Date: 2/27/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 2/27/2014
Entry Description
State Representative Greg Beumer (R-Modoc) and fellow state representatives welcomed a group of House pages on Thursday as part of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Page Day. Rep. Beumer was joined by page Sarah Dirksen, State Sentinel of the FFA.

“I enjoyed having Sarah and other members of FFA join us today at the Statehouse,” said Rep. Beumer. “This organization does a wonderful job of equipping our young people to be prepared to tackle modern challenges in the agriculture industry. This is a very important task as Indiana has a strong agricultural background that will continue to propel our state forward economically. FFA also teaches the type of dedication and strong work ethic that makes our state great. ”

According to the organization’s website, FFA was founded more than 80 years ago to educate young people about the business, science and art of farming. Over time, the organization has risen to the challenge of feeding a growing population, and expanded its mission to encompass related fields, including biology, chemistry, veterinary medicine, engineering and entrepreneurship. Today, there are nearly 580,000 FFA members in 7,570 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Indiana chapter, in particular, has 9,600 members.

“The FFA has a strong presence in our community, and I am thankful for the work that they do to keep our state competitive in this vital industry. Farming can be thankless job, however every Hoosier benefits from food sustenance by local providers,” said Rep. Beumer. “I want to commend the FFA on their well-established legacy of excellence and again convey what an honor it was to welcome Sarah and other FFA students to the Statehouse. I look forward to the next time we receive a visit from them.”
