[r88] Legislation strengthening Indiana’s infrastructure signed into law
Start Date: 4/3/2014Start Time: 4:00 PM
Entry Description

STATEHOUSE – Legislation strengthening Indiana’s transportation system was signed into law by the governor. House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1002, co-authored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Roads and Transportation, Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso), was part of the House Republicans’ 2014 Legislative Agenda. Chairman Soliday joined Indiana House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) for the ceremonial signing today at the Indiana Department and Transportation (INDOT) Traffic Management Center in Indianapolis.

“Improving Indiana’s transportation system is a continual process and is only successful if we work together in order to sustain it,” said Chairman Soliday. “With over half a trillion dollars of goods passing along our roads, highways and bridges each year, it is critical to our economy that we protect and improve Indiana’s largest investment. I was proud to work on legislation this session that addresses several of our current infrastructure needs, and I appreciate the teamwork and bipartisanship displayed to make this a priority in 2014.”

The costs to repair Indiana’s roads vary, according to INDOT.    Several key factors contribute to the cost of these projects, such as rehabilitation of existing pavement, interchange modifications and bridge replacement.

“Transferring up to $400M to improve and expand major infrastructure in our state translates into thousands of jobs for Hoosiers. Approving this transfer allows us to leverage federal funding. I am pleased we were able to deliver on our promise to improve Indiana’s transportation system this session while remaining fiscally responsible. Indiana is the Crossroads of America, and we made strides this session to maintain that prestigious reputation,” said Speaker Bosma.
