[53] New law supports State Fair student participants
Start Date: 4/4/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/4/2014
Entry Description
New law supports State Fair student participants

STATEHOUSE — Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 114, sponsored by State Representative Bob Cherry (R-Greenfield), was signed into law today by Governor Mike Pence.

SEA 114 provides that a school corporation or the chief administrative officer of a nonpublic school system may excuse students and members of the student’s household from school for up to five instructional school days, so they can participate in State Fair activities.

“Conflicting school and State Fair calendars should not stop students from being able to participate in an activity that took a lot of dedication and preparation,” said Rep. Cherry. “Excusing school absences so students can compete, encourages students to follow through on their projects and be able to showcase their skills on the biggest stage for Hoosier agriculture.”
