The IAC helps strengthen arts education in Indiana by providing assistance to enhance arts education delivery, support, and resources. We hope to increase access to arts education resources for educators, artists, and arts organizations as well as increase public awareness of the value of whole child education and in life-long learning in the arts.
The National Center on Education Statistics (NCES) has publicly released a report on the conditions of K-12 arts teaching and learning. The report, "Arts Education in Elementary and Secondary Schools: 1999-2000 and 2009-10," along with Secretary Arne Duncan's remarks and the NCES press release, can be found at: http://www.ed.gov/blog/2012/04/ed-releases-new-report-on-arts-education-in-u-s-public-schools/.

The Arts in Education (AIE) Granting Program was created to help support curriculum needs, impact individual student engagement and performance, and develop a long term commitment to the arts in schools at the primary and secondary levels. Schools are asked to develop a working partnership with an artist, organization, business or group to develop and implement a successful project. All projects must meet current state curriculum standards.

The Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest was created in 2005 by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The contest is administered in partnership with State Arts Agencies.
Poetry Out Loud builds on the recent resurgence of poetry as an oral art form, as demonstrated by the slam poetry movement and the immense popularity of rap music among our youth. The program encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance, which help students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about our literary heritage.

The Indiana Principal Leadership Academy has a monthly video segment known as IPLA Today. Last summer they asked Sarah Fronczek from the Indiana Department of Education to tape a segment on arts education in Indiana from an administrative point of view—observing current programs, hiring new teachers, and characteristics of high quality arts instruction.
