Trail Conditions

TRAIL CONDITION: BAD

The KT is covered with 5-10 inches of snow. When you hike towards the south, the depth of snow is reduced. Please check weather conditions before hiking the KT.

Notice: Closures resulting from the March 2, 2012 Tornado

CLOSED: The KT is closed between the 4MM to 9MM. This is the area between the Pixley Knob Road and Bartle Knob Road in Clark State Forest. There is a trailhead area available for use on the west side of the Pixley Knob Road at approximately KT 9MM. Click here to see map of trailhead available for parking.  The Bartle Knob Road 4.5 trailhead is available for use. Click here to see map of this new trailhead. (Closure in both maps is highlighted in purple).

The following are also closed until further notice:

  • Jackson Road
  • Knobstone Trail Jackson Road Trailhead
  • Mountain Grove Loop Horse trail

Updates will be posted as they become available.

NOTE: If you are aware of any adverse trail conditions on the KT, please let us know. Contact Nila Armstrong Please be specific of type of hazard and location.

Trail Re-Routes

The Knobstone Trail has a few temporary re-routes that will affect your hiking at this time. This restriction is due to the timber management areas located in the Jackson-Washington State Forest and Deam Lake Trailhead area.

  1. Deam Lake Trailhead is located at the end of Flower Gap Road continue into the forest until you see the trailhead sign on your right. Click here to see map. (Closure highlighted in purple.)
  2. Jackson-Washington State Forest has a section in the KT Spurgeon Hollow Loop that has been re-routed. The 41D marker section is closed until near the 42D marker. The map shows the closed section of trail in purple. Click here to see map.
  3. Jackson Washington State Forest has a re-routed section between State Road 56 to Oxley Memorial Trailhead. The re-routed KT is marked in red. Click here to see map.

Knobstone Trail

Maps can be purchased at the DNR customer service center by calling 317-232-4200. The maps are $4.00 plus 7% tax each and includes shipping. They are 24" X 36" on waterproof paper and are printed in full color.

The following pdf files are about 7.0MB. So please wait while it is displaying the maps. These are the same maps that can be bought from DNR.

Maps can also be purchased near the trail at Clark State Forest, Jackson Washington State Forest and Delaney Park.
