A fishing pier at Deam Lake is popular with anglers.
Even though we’re still keeping an eye out for more snow and high school basketball is heading for its yearly climax, it really is time to make reservations for your summer campout.
Reservations may be made up to six months in advance for campsites and one year in advance for group camps, cabins, shelters, and recreational buildings.
The DNR has 8,000 campsites at state parks, reservoirs and recreation areas; and hundreds of campers already have made their summer plans.
To reserve a campsite online, go to www.camp.in.gov or call toll free at (866) 622-6746. To reserve family cabins, shelter houses and recreation buildings and group camps, go online to www.indianainns.com or call toll free (877) 563-4371.
New campgrounds will open this year at Prophetstown State Park near Lafayettte and at Indiana Dunes along Lake Michigan.
Additional information about Prophetstown is now available at www.IN.gov/dnr/parklake/parks/prophetstown.html. We are offering 55 full hookup sites and 55 electric sites this first season. They’ll be going fast, so reserve early!
Prophetstown also has four shelters available for your family reunions and other activities you have planned for the summer.
Special pricing is available again this year for the Seven Hidden Jewels: Charlestown State Park, Deam Lake, Harmonie State Park, Mississinewa Reservoir, Lieber State Recreation/Cagles Mill, Starve Hollow State Forest and O’Bannon Woods State Park (formerly Wyandotte).
Because these secluded, quiet properties are not well known, you will find campsite rental fees discounted as much as $12.80 per night. A full hookup campsite that would normally cost $31.80 is just $23 late in the week and only $19 on Sunday through Wednesday nights. All campsites are discounted, so you can camp for as little as $9 per night.
