What is INSafe?
INSafe, formerly known as BuSET, is a division of the Indiana Department of Labor that works with Indiana’s small businesses providing workplace safety and health consultation, training, and compliance assistance. INSafe services are free, confidential, and conducted on an employer’s worksite. For additional information please contact INSafe at (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
Is INSafe different from the Bureau of Safety, Education, and Training (BuSET)?
In 2005 the BuSET division of the Indiana Department of Labor was renamed as INSafe. INSafe’s focus on Hoosier workplace safety and heath remains the same as it was prior to 2005. For additional information please contact INSafe at (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
What is an INSafe consultation?
INSafe workplace safety and health consultation services are provided in three distinct disciplines that include general industry, construction, and industrial hygiene. INSafe consultants can conduct a full evaluation that includes the employer’s entire worksite and a review of safety and health programs. INSafe consultants can also conduct a consultation of a specific purpose that includes a specific safety or health issue or program. For additional information, please contact INSafe at (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
Who does INSafe serve?
INSafe provides priority consideration to Indiana’s high-hazard and small employers (250 employees or less). However, INSafe serves all Indiana employers that request consultation services. For additional information, please contact INSafe at: (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
How is INSafe different from IOSHA?
INSafe is different from IOSHA in a few distinct ways. Unlike compliance inspections, INSafe services are voluntary; the employer must request INSafe services. INSafe services are confidential, IOSHA compliance inspections are a matter of public record. INSafe does not fine or penalize an employer for violations of the standard. IOSHA issues citations of violations of occupational safety and health standards. INSafe provides guidance to the employer through consultation follow-up by providing the employer with resources needed to identify and ultimately eliminate worksite hazards. For additional information, please contact INSafe at: (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
Are INSafe services provided in Spanish?
All services offered by INSafe including consultation, training, and related materials are available in Spanish. For additional information, please contact INSafe at (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
How do I request INSafe consultation?
Because INSafe consultation services are voluntary, an employer’s request for INSafe services must be in writing. The INSafe Consultation Services Request Form may be found online. For additional information, please contact INSafe at (317) 232-2688 or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
What do I do if I cannot afford workplace safety and health training?
Through an employer’s request for consultation, the INSafe consultant may work with an employer to determine appropriate workplace safety and health training needs. In many cases the INSafe consultant will work with the employer to provide the training onsite. In addition to onsite training INSafe works with various Hoosier organizations to provide training scholarships to Hoosier employers that meet the established criteria. For additional information on training scholarships available, please visit our calendar, phone INSafe at (317) 232-2688, or email INSafe at insafe@dol.in.gov .
