Occupational Injuries & Illnesses
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII), the number of occupational injuries and illnesses reported in 2006 was 131,000. An injury or illness is counted only if it required more than simple first aid treatment. Illnesses only count if the illness is present within the year being surveyed. Illnesses that manifest many years after an event are currently not captured in occupational illness counts.
