INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 15, 2007) – Governor Daniels has extended the Indiana tax-filing deadline this year to April 17, giving Hoosiers an extra day to file their 2006 state income tax returns. The governor’s decision aligns with a number of other states around the nation that have chosen to extend their state filing dates after the Internal Revenue Service in late January changed the federal filing date to compensate for Emancipation Day, a legal holiday that falls on April 16 in Washington, D.C.

Department of Revenue Commissioner John Eckart said the new date applies to other filing deadlines as well. “Taxpayers will have until April 17 to also file for an extension and to make their first quarter estimated income-tax payments.”

Taxpayers can also file and pay their state income taxes up to 11:30 p.m. on April 17 through I-File, Indiana’s online free tax-filing program. For more information about I-File, visit http://www.ifile.in.gov/
