Coming Soon: Extension of Time to File Deadline
Oct. 11, 2012 – TaxTalk Blog
Fall has arrived in Indiana.
This time of year is ripe with hopes of a fruitful harvest. Farmers are jockeying combines through corn fields, orchard owners are hoping for a good apple cider season, and leaf-peeping tours are just around the corner. Also coming up is the due date for those filing income tax returns under a federal extension of time to file.
You may have filed for a federal extension of time to file if you were not quite ready to file your taxes when April 17 came around this year. This extension allows you to file your federal return by Oct. 15, 2012, and to file your Indiana return by Nov. 19, 2012. You read that right – Indiana gives you 30+ days beyond the Oct. 15 federal extension filing deadline.
Normally, the Indiana and federal returns are filed at the same time (especially when filing electronically). That said, if you just can’t get your state return completed by Oct. 15, you’ll have a few more weeks to mail it in and be considered timely filed.
Of course, the sooner you file the more time you’ll have for the truly fun Fall activities (bobbing for apples, hayrides and cookouts come to mind).
