Daniels and Really Cool Foods donate to two local charities

February 2, 2010— Governor Mitch Daniels and Indiana-based company Really Cool Foods today celebrated the Indianapolis Colts’ AFC Championship by making a donation to two local faith-based organizations that serve food to Hoosiers in need.  The food was Daniels’ wager with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on the Colts vs. New York Jets game, but the company wanted to contribute the meals even though the Colts won.

“Even though the Colts won, those helped by my church and by The Lord’s Pantry did too because Really Cool Foods lived up to its name and insisted on making this donation anyway,” said Daniels. “I’m just proud to be the delivery guy.”

Daniels delivered 25 cases of restaurant quality, fresh prepared foods to The Lord’s Pantry at Anna’s House, Inc. in the Stringtown/Haughville area of Indianapolis to be served free of charge to members of the community.  The organization, formerly run by the late Lucious Newsom, has provided groceries and meals to neighborhood families for more than 20 years.  The donated food will serve the approximately 150 community members who visit Anna’s House each Wednesday night to receive a hot meal. The remaining 25 cases of food will be donated to The Open Door program at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, where Daniels has been a member for nearly 50 years.  The program serves lunch to those in need each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Really Cool Foods opened a state-of-the-art production and distribution center in Indiana in 2008 after moving its headquarters from New York City to Cambridge City. As part of the wager between Daniels and Christie, the company agreed to donate 50 cases of its healthy, natural menu specialties including chicken parmigiana, penne pasta and handmade lasagna, to the charities of Christie’s choice if the Jets won.  When the Colts won, the company offered to donate the 50 cases of food to the charities of Governor Daniels’ choice.
