Indiana's First Lady Cheri Daniels is traveling to Harrison Parkway Elementary School in Noblesville, Indiana on Friday, January 27, 2006. She will read to Cathy Fuqua's fourth grade class at 11:30 a.m. Daniels has been traveling throughout the state to encourage children, parents, and teachers to read.

"I have always loved reading, and I used to read to my girls when they were growing up. I can't think of a more appropriate way to encourage children to read."

Fuqua's class is especially excited that Daniels will be visiting their classroom, because they have been studying Indiana's "first" First Lady Ann Gilmore Hay Jennings, wife of Indiana's first governor Jonathan Jennings. After Daniels reads to the children they will ask her questions concerning her role as the First Lady of Indiana and compare her answers with the research they have done on Jennings.

Indiana's academic standards for fourth grade social studies states, "Students will trace the historical periods, places, people, events, and movements that have led to the development of Indiana as a state." At the end of the year Fuqua will have the children compile a binder containing information about the State of Indiana that they have collected and researched throughout the year.
