"We are excited to continue the tradition of hosting trick-or-treaters at the Governor’s Residence,” said First Lady Cheri Daniels. “As a bonus this year, we’re going to hand out candy made right here in Indiana."
The governor and first lady will dress as members of an Indy Racing League (IRL) pit crew and will have an IRL race car at the Residence during trick-or-treat hours.
The Schimpff family has been making candy in Jeffersonville since 1871 and in Louisville since the 1850's. Gustav Jr. & wife Louisa decided to open a candy store across the Ohio River in Jeffersonville in 1871. Started by Gus Schimpff Sr. and Jr., the business has survived wars, floods, depressions, and recessions through four generations and is one of the oldest, continuously operated, family-owned candy businesses in the United States. http://www.schimpffs.com/index.html
Walter C. Mundt, Sr. immigrated to America in 1866 and in 1893 moved his family to Madison, opening his first candy manufacturing and retail store that year. Ten years later he organized the Mundt-Hidden Candy Company and in 1917 he founded Mundt’s Candies in the existing building at 207 West Main. Mention Mundt’s and Hoosiers fondly recall fish candy, chocolates, Betty’s and Richard’s soda fountain creations, dark wood booths and pictures of school children covering the wall. http://www.mundtscandies.com/
DeBrand Fine Chocolates was founded in 1987 by artisan chocolatier, Cathy Brand. Brand grew up in a family renowned in the confectionery business and began making chocolates at the young age of 8. DeBrand has grown significantly since its humble beginnings in Cathy's family's century-old home and now employs nearly 100 people with its 4 retail shops, kitchen, corporate office, and thriving Mail Order business. Regardless of how large DeBrand becomes, quality - the one standard that has always been the foundation of DeBrand - will never be sacrificed. http://www.debrand.com/
Zachary Confections, Inc. was founded in 1950 by J.J. Zachary and his wife Helen in Chicago, Illinois. The two were the original sales, office, and management staff, who, together, vowed to make specialized chocolates of the highest quality. What started as a simple, family-owned company began to flourish into a very well known producer of quality confections. Son Jack Zachary, who started as a territory salesman, became president in 1972. Today, Jack runs the company with his sons Jack III and Patrick. The Zachary family works together to ensure high-quality standards of production and service on the products that bear their name. http://www.zacharyconfections.com/
