Putting Women on Red Alert

Media Advisory
For Immediate Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (February 1, 2008) - First Lady Cheri Daniels is encouraging women across the state to Go Red during the month of February to raise awareness of the risks of heart disease.

"Wearing red is a simple, powerful way to help the American Heart Association raise awareness of heart disease and stroke," said Daniels. "As we gear up for American Heart Month, we are reminded to spread the word that heart disease takes more women’s lives each year than all forms of cancer combined."

Throughout February, Daniels is asking Hoosiers to wear their favorite red clothes or accessories—a red blouse, red dress pin, fabulous red handbag or a red tie and red socks—to show support for women and the fight against heart disease. In helping raise awareness, Daniels has decided once again to illuminate the Governor’s Residence in red light. Effective February 1, the Governor’s Residence will Go Red.

As part of her Heart to Heart program, Daniels is participating in several heart healthy events this month.

"Heart to Heart encourages women to have heart-to-heart conversations with each other about heart disease. Remind the women you love to work out, eat right and stop smoking to ensure longer, healthier lives."

The Heart to Heart program is sponsored by the Office of Indiana’s First Lady and the Indiana State Department of Health’s Office of Women’s Health.
