MEDIA ADVISORY
For Immediate Release

WESTVILLE (March 24, 2008) - First Lady Cheri Daniels will speak about her Heart to Heart initiative on Monday, March 24, at 4 p.m. (CST) in Room 02 of the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall on the Purdue University North Central campus. The Indiana Heart Hospital and several local agencies will begin providing free health screenings and educational information starting at 3 p.m.

"Heart disease takes too many precious lives each year. It's up to us to tell the women we love about heart disease and encourage them to eat right and exercise," Daniels said.

The Heart to Heart campaign is designed to educate young women on the risk factors of heart disease and heart-healthy habits for preventing heart disease. The initiative encourages women to lead by example and share their knowledge by having heart-to-heart conversations with the women they love.

Daniels says the college years are the perfect time for women to start thinking more seriously about their cardiovascular health in order to develop healthy habits that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.

In addition to comments from Daniels, the program will include a welcome from Chancellor James Dworkin and information on how to live a heart-healthy life from nurse practitioner Cindy Adams, director of the Healthy Hearts Center at the Indiana Heart Hospital. Dr. Marne Juestel, assistant professor of Nursing at Purdue North Central, will present new research about women and heart disease. The event is free and open to the public.

The Heart to Heart initiative is sponsored by the Office of Indiana's First Lady and the Indiana State Department of Health's Office of Women's Health. Purdue University North Central Chancellor Dr. James Dworkin is co-hosting the first lady's visit.
