Governor's Residence Information

The residence at 4750 N. Meridian Street is the sixth official governor's residence in Indiana. Built in 1928 by Scott Wadley, with Rabush and Hunter serving as architects, this English Tudor home is approximately 10,500 square feet, surrounded by six and one half acres of green lawn and gardens.

In 1986, the area known as North Meridian Street historic district was listed in the National Register of Historic Places to honor its preserved beauty and rich history.

The state of Indiana acquired the house in 1973 from attorney C. Severin Buschman under the Bowen administration. Renovations before it opened were costly and included several updates. However, prior to 2005 the original house had not been significantly renovated.

Governor Mitch Daniels and First Lady Cheri Daniels wanted a structurally sound home where all Hoosiers would feel comfortable and therefore began major renovations in 2005. Construction companies, designers and laborers from around the state worked together to complete the renovations to "the People's House" at no cost to taxpayers.

The Governor's Residence Commission appreciates your contribution which directly supports the ongoing preservation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Indiana Governor's Residence.
