INDIANAPOLIS (February 6, 2009) - In partnership with the American Heart Association, First Lady Cheri Daniels is asking Hoosiers across the state to Go Red for Women to help raise awareness about women's heart disease.

"We've made a lot of progress in sharing the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of women, but there's still plenty of work to do," said Daniels. "By wearing red throughout the month, you can bring attention to this disease that takes far too many women's lives each year."

For the third consecutive year, the Governor's Residence will be illuminated with red light during the month of February. Red flags also have been placed along Meridian Street to remind Hoosiers to live a heart-healthy life.

The first lady's Heart to Heart program encourages women to have conversations with their loved ones about heart disease. The initiative is sponsored by the Office of the First Lady and the Indiana State Department of Health's Office of Women's Health.
