This was the first year for IndiCANa, and the event was a huge success. Nine teams of Indiana state employees competed for great prizes that were awarded by First Lady Cheri Daniels. All items used in the creation of the structures were donated to the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers Food Drive at the conclusion of the event. Thank you to all of this year’s participants!
A Word from First Lady Cheri Daniels
For IndiCANa, contestants had to make structures out of cans and boxed goods that had something to do with either Indiana or the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers Food Drive. Participating teams had twenty-five minutes to complete their structures.
Congratulations to team CANputer Support from the Indiana Office of Technology.
Their structure 'Helping Hoosiers One Can at a Time' won first place.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all participants and attendees at the inaugural IndiCANa can stucture builidng competition. The event was a huge success because of the creativitiy, dedication and generosity of the competitors and their fellow state employees.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone who attended the event, and it was especially exciting to see all of the support for the participating agency teams. Smokey the Bear even came by to cheer on the team from the Department of Natural Resources.
I had the difficult task of awarding prizes to the top-finishing teams. With structures ranging from Monument Circle in Indianapolis to a covered bridge in Parke County, believe me-picking my favorites was not an easy job! I was truly amazed by the efforts of every team that participated, and I hope that everyone had as great of a time making the structures as I had watching the building process.
While everyone enjoyed the competitive aspect of the afternoon, the basic purpose of IndiCANa was to raise awareness for the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers Food Drive. I am proud to report that donations increased dramatically in the days following the event, so everyone in attendance should be proud that this goal was met.
Thank you for making IndiCANa such an exciting event. But most of all, thank you for taking time to make a difference in our great state.
Warm regards,
Cheri Daniels
