INDIANAPOLIS (February 4, 2010) – In partnership with the American Heart Association, First Lady Cheri Daniels is asking Hoosiers to recognize National Wear Red Day on February 5 to help raise awareness about women’s cardiovascular disease.

"Wearing red is a simple way to show support for the fight against heart disease," said Daniels. "We must continue to bring attention to the primary threat to women’s lives."

For the fourth consecutive year, the Governor's Residence will be illuminated with red light during the month of February. Red flags also have been placed along Meridian Street to remind Hoosiers to make heart-healthy decisions.

The first lady's Heart to Heart program encourages individuals to have conversations with their loved ones about heart disease. In order to spread her message, Mrs. Daniels travels across the state to speak at hospitals, on college campuses and to women’s groups about the importance of heart health. The initiative is sponsored by the Office of the First Lady and the Indiana State Department of Health's Office of Women’s Health.
