INDIANAPOLIS (August 11, 2010) - First Lady Cheri Daniels will host the 2010 Heartland Walk for Health on Saturday, August 14, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The goal of the annual event is to raise awareness about women’s heart disease and to promote healthy and active lifestyles for all Hoosiers.

"Increasing our amount of daily physical activity is a simple way to combat the devastating effect heart disease has on Hoosier families," said Daniels. "Whether you’re a marathon runner or just beginning an exercise program, the Heartland Walk for Health is a non-competitive walk for people of all fitness levels."

Jim Denny, Deborah Honeycutt and Kevin Freeman, hosts of The Jim, Deb and Kevin Show on 95.5 WFMS, will emcee the event. Activities including warm-up exercises, entertainment, massages and free health screenings will begin east of the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand at 8 a.m. Mrs. Daniels will lead the walk around the Track of Champions at approximately 9 a.m.

All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, State Fair ribbon, “goodie bag” and light breakfast. Attendees also will be eligible to win a variety of door prizes, such as gift certificates to local businesses, signed items from Indiana athletic teams, and tickets to sporting events and attractions across the state.

There is no registration fee for the walk after entry to the fair. Walk-up registrations will be accepted on the morning of the event.

The Heartland Walk for Health is presented by Clarian Cardiovascular through a partnership with the Office of the First Lady, the Indiana State Department of Health Office of Women’s Health and the Indiana State Fair.
