INDIANAPOLIS (March 15, 2011) – First Lady Cheri Daniels today announced the results of the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers food drive. During the month of February, Indiana state employees joined together to collect more than 95,700 non-perishable items and raise $11,230 for 121 food banks throughout the state.

“Over the past three years, we have collected nearly a quarter of a million items for regional food banks,” said Daniels. “I am sincerely proud of our state employees for their unwavering generosity.”

Donations collected from the Indianapolis area benefitted Gleaners Food Bank. “The contributions received from the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers food drive will put meals on the table for countless local families in need,” said Cindy Hubert, President and CEO of Gleaners Food Bank. “We are grateful for the giving spirit and impressive effort of state employees.”

Twelve teams of state employees participated in the third annual IndiCANa competition on February 23. Agency representatives built structures out of non-perishable food items, with a combined team from the State Budget Agency and Office of Management and Budget taking top honors for its replica of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
