First Lady Cheri Daniels to host seventh annual Heartland Walk for Health

INDIANAPOLIS (August 10, 2011) - First Lady Cheri Daniels will host the 2011 Heartland Walk for Health on Saturday, August 13 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The goal of the annual event is to raise awareness about women’s heart disease and to promote healthy and active lifestyles.

“One of the most controllable risk factors for heart disease is lack of physical activity,” said Daniels. “I encourage all Hoosiers to join me on Saturday to make or renew a commitment to incorporate exercise into our daily routines.”

Dave O’Brien, host of Mornings with Dave O’Brien on Country 97.1 HANK FM, will emcee the event. Activities including warm-up exercises, entertainment, chair massages and health screenings will begin east of the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand at 8 a.m. Mrs. Daniels will lead the two-mile walk around the Track of Champions at approximately 9 a.m.

All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, goodie bag and light breakfast. Attendees also will be eligible to win a variety of door prizes, such as gift certificates to local businesses, signed items from Indiana athletic teams and tickets to sporting events and attractions across the state.

There is no registration fee for the walk after entry to the fair. Walk-up registrations will be accepted on the morning of the event. Additional details can be found at heartland.in.gov.
