Merrillville - The Indiana Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies and the National Association of Human Rights Workers (NAHRW) Joint Training Conference will be held June 17-20, 2014 at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville, Indiana. Members of the Indiana Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies will act as host. The theme of the conference is "Fifty Years Since the Passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act: Are We There Yet?"
The opening plenary speaker will be U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Chairperson, Martin R. Castro. The conference presenters include the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), U.S. Department of Justice, National Council on Educating Black Children, consultants and state and local human and civil rights organizations.
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Founder of Rainbow PUSH Coalition, former Mayor of Gary, IN, Richard Hatcher and retired investigative reporter of Chicago’s WMAQ-TV Renee Ferguson will discuss the civil rights movement in northern Indiana and the National Black Political Convention held in Gary in 1972.
Jeff Lorick is President of the Indiana Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies. Lorick encourages civil rights practitioners, attorneys, social workers and community advocates to attend the conference in Merrillville. "We have a great schedule of presenters and sessions that we believe will not disappoint". President of the National Association of Human Rights Workers, Dr. Anthony Wade will be a presenter at the conference.

Established in 1972, the Indiana Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies, is an organization of civil and human rights enforcement agencies from across the state. The group meets quarterly for training and to discuss statewide human rights policy. The association also holds a training conference annually. Currently there are 23 member organizations.
The National Association of Human Rights Workers (NAHRW) is an organization of individuals committed to providing education, training, research, networking, and professional development to its members in order to enable them to foster equality within a diverse society. The NAHRW Annual Training Conference is the nation's leading human and civil rights workers conference.
