The Indiana Partners for Pollution Prevention (Partners) is a group of businesses and other organizations that volunteer for a public-private partnership with IDEM to promote pollution prevention and environmental stewardship in Indiana. The Partners invite speakers to make presentations at conferences and quarterly meetings. IDEM provides this page on its Web site for those speakers to post the written materials from those presentations. IDEM does not review or edit the content of those presentations and therefore does not endorse the content of any presentation posted on this page.
The Partners for Pollution Prevention is an organization comprised of Indiana industries, businesses, nonprofit organizations and governmental entities that are interested in pollution prevention as well as the financial and environmental benefits P2 projects can bring. The Partners provide a forum where Indiana businesses can network and exchange ideas about P2 experiences and discuss how P2 fits into current and future IDEM programs. The Partners realize that pollution prevention is the arena where the environment and economics can meet on common ground.
Consider becoming a Partner if you want to:
Pollution prevention means working at the source of pollutants to prevent them from being generated or to reduce the amount generated. It is using materials and energy more efficiently, and conserving natural resources, including water. It is following best management practices, and involving all employees in their implementation, to reduce and prevent pollution. Finally, P2 means also seeing the financial benefits of increased efficiency in the use of raw materials, energy, water or other resources.
In 1996, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management organized the Partners for Pollution Prevention (Partners). These Partners had a proven interest in pollution prevention based upon their involvement in grants, awards, and other programs. The Partners provided a forum to discuss and share pollution prevention successes and to advise IDEM on pollution prevention policies and programs.
Since that time, the Partners have grown and consist of approximately 65 organizations. Many have received Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence for their outstanding contribution to Indiana's environment.
You may become a Partner if your company, organization, or business signs the Partners Pledge, certifies that the company is working toward meeting the requirements of the Partners Pledge, and continues to operate with these goals in mind. Partners must also have good environmental, health and safety records.
Unresolved compliance issues or enforcement actions involving your facility may prevent participation in the Partners for Pollution Prevention. Compliance related eligibility determinations will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If you are unsure of your facility's compliance status, please contact OPPTA to inquire.
Membership is free, voluntary, and is contingent on your organization supporting the Partners Pledge.
The Partners for Pollution Prevention champion pollution prevention and environmental stewardship programs in businesses and organizations by promoting successful practices and approaches to achieve measurable reduction of pollution in Indiana.
Indiana becomes a place where people embrace pollution prevention as a means to live and prosper in a clean environment, while enjoying and preserving our natural resources forever.
As a Partner,
As a Partner, you pledge to:
For more information about the Partners for Pollution Prevention or to receive a membership application, please contact IDEM's Office of Pollution Prevention & Technical Assistance at (800) 988-7901 or (317) 234-5286.
Upon request, you will receive a new member packet which includes an application. By completing the application, your organization indicates your level of commitment to the Partners Pledge. Only those applicants that commit to the requirements of the pledge will be inducted as members. New Partners will be inducted at quarterly meetings, where they will receive a copy of the pledge signed by the IDEM Commissioner.
Each Partner is also required to complete the annual recertification to share P2 success stories and data. These success stories may be used in promotional materials by the Partners and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) through a variety of outreach efforts that will encourage Indiana companies to consider the benefits of pollution prevention.
