Section 319 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) establishes a national program to address nonpoint sources of water pollution, which are the leading causes of water quality degradation in the United States. Section 319(h) of the CWA specifically authorizes EPA to award grants to states with approved Nonpoint Source Management Program Plans. As required by Section 319(h), each state’s Nonpoint Source Management Program Plan describes the state program for nonpoint source (NPS) management and serves as the basis for how funds are spent. As a part of states Nonpoint Source Management Programs, the U.S. EPA requires periodic updates to the plans. And as a part of the updating process, states must put the document out for public comment.

The IDEM has revised the Plan and is now seeking public input on the 2008 Revised Draft NPS Management Plan. The Plan has been updated to better address requirements of the U.S. EPA, which will allow the IDEM to better address NPS issues in Indiana. The IDEM is currently seeking input on the draft 2008 Plan. Your comments are important to the update process. The comment period is from June 15, 2008 until July 14, 2008.
