IDEM Storm Damage Update
IDEM is providing information and assistance to citizens, local governments, public drinking water utilities, wastewater treatment facilities and livestock operations in areas impacted by severe weather.

- Emergency burning (IDEM approval required)
- Communities must have IDEM approval to conduct emergency burning. With approval from IDEM, communities may conduct emergency burning to manage clean wood waste, vegetation, or deceased animals resulting from a disaster. Please contact Patrick Powlen at (317) 695-6439 or David Rice at (317) 502-2251 for verbal approval. The burning of solid waste items, including carpeting, plastics, shingles, siding and flooring is prohibited.

Public Drinking Water Utilities
IDEM is working to provide technical assistance and regulatory information to public drinking water systems who are experiencing operational problems due to severe weather. Drinking water operators should contact Liz Melvin with IDEM’s Drinking Water Branch at (317) 308-3366 or lmelvin at idem.IN.gov to request technical assistance or report problems.
Wastewater Treatment Facilities
IDEM is working to provide technical assistance and regulatory information to wastewater treatment facilities experiencing operational problems due to severe weather. Wastewater operators should contact Don Daily with IDEM’s Wastewater Compliance Branch at (317) 234-2579 or ddaily at idem.IN.gov to request assistance or report problems.
Livestock Operations
IDEM, with the assistance of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, is available to provide livestock operations with technical assistance related to emergency storage in wet weather and the proper management of chemical fertilizer. To request technical assistance, owners and operators may contact Andy Tauer, IDEM's agricultural liaison, at (317) 232-8587 or atauer at idem.IN.gov. To report spills and releases, contact the IDEM Spill Line, toll free, at (888) 233-7745.
