What can we do for your business?

Since the 1990s, Indiana has been working to make recycling a successful industry. That doesn’t mean it’s been easy. Hoosier recycling companies have had challenges including finding materials, increasing collection rates, and consistently producing quality products.

The Recycling Market Development Program (RMDP) was introduced as a means to help recyclers by providing funding for equipment specifically needed to remanufacture recyclable materials into finished products or industrial feedstocks. The Program faced funding challenges during the economic down turn, but is now back and focused on Governor Pence’s latest 2014 Roadmap objectives including advancing the recycling industry through market based reforms, as well as improving Hoosiers’ quality of life by protecting Indiana’s natural resources through increasing Indiana’s recycling goal to 50%.

If you have an idea for a project-ready expansion or are starting a new venture in recycling, take a look to see if the RMDP can help!

Recycling Market Development Board

The RMDP is administered by IDEM and operates under the Recycling Market Development Board as established by IC 4-23-5.5. The Board determines all final funding for eligible projects. Approval of funding is announced at subsequent Board meetings. This year, funding awards will be announced in November.

The Indiana Recycling Market Development Board commissioned a municipal solid waste characterization study to determine the types of recyclable materials still going into Indiana landfills. The study completed by Purdue University—Calumet allowed college students to discover first-hand the challenges in measuring Indiana’s waste stream.
