Students and Educators

The State House Tour Office regularly welcomes student groups to the State House for tours and other learning opportunities. To help students and educators get the most out of their visit to Indiana's capitol, the Tour Office makes available to visitors general information about Indiana, the State's legislative process, and special State House events of interests to school groups.

With advance notice, the information available below is also available in the Tour Office upon arrival. Simply let the Tour Office know your needs prior to your visit.

Upcoming Events

Indiana’s 192nd birthday. Please join us for “Indiana Statehood Day”on Thursday, December 11, 2008, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Indiana State House. Educational and interactive displays will be presented by Executive offices, the Indiana Supreme Court, State Museum, State Archives, State Library, Historical Bureau and other State agencies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  In addition, the winner of the "What Indiana Means to Me" essay contest will read his or her essay.

Past Events

On Monday, December 11, 2006 Indiana celebrated its 190th year of statehood. To mark the occassion, fourth graders from around the state were invited to participate in Indiana Statehood Day events held at the State House Rotunda. As a part of the festivities, the winning essay from the "What Indiana Means to Me" Fourth Grade Essay Competition was read.
