Projects
In addition to the projects undertaken by specific
committees, IGIC strives
to further GIS in the state by working with partners in the public and private sectors. Below are a few of our
current projects.
This ongoing multi-phase project envisions a single, widely accessible digital map for Indiana.
Statewide Address Integration
IGIC is working with partners across the state to develop a process for local governments to feed their
address data into a single statewide repository.
National Hydrography Dataset Stewardship
Indiana's water data is part of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). Right now, there is no "steward" for that data, no
way to make sure what we have is accurate, and delivered regularly to the Federal Government. IGIC is
working with the US Geological Survey to identify a local steward - or stewards - for Indiana. One watershed is
being used as a test case: updates, maintenance and training for staff to incorporate the corrected data into the NHD.
Return on Investment Study
Through a Cooperative Agreements Program (CAP) grant from the Federal Geographic Data Committee, IGIC is undertaking a
return on investment study for statewide GIS to identify current spending, duplication of effort, needs, benefits,
and financial and non-financial return.
IndianaMap for Economic Development more...
The IndianaMap package is an ideal tool to build thriving communities. IGIC is putting these digital map collections
into the hands of the people striving to improve Indiana economies.
2005 Statewide Orthophotography more...
This massive project started in 2004 and resulted in the acquisition of orthophotography for the entire
state.
2005 Statewide Elevation more...
Not your mother's elevation data - this is statewide, high resolution, and high accuracy.
One of the basic framework layers, elevation data was collected in conjunction with the 2005 Statewide
Orthophotography Project.
IndianaMap - In A Library Near You! more...
With funding from an AT&T Excelerator Grant, IGIC and the Indiana State Library put new
county digital maps in at least one public library in every county in the state.
The Huck Finn project encourages kids' involvement in the GIS through activities
like Paint Your Schoolyard.
Tie Card Scanning Project more...
In a multi-jurisdictional effort, surveyor's tie cards are being scanned and accessed electronically by
surveyors around the state.
GPS for Kids
Working with the Geography Educators' Network of Indiana, IGIC distributed GPS units, software,
and aerial photography to 10 schools and youth groups across Indiana.
GIS Presenter Kits
Under the
IndianaView Minigrant program, the IGIC
Education & Outreach Committee
developed a series of
presentation materials to assist both experts and
novices in conveying the benefits of GIS.
