In 1987 the Police Chief Executive Training Program was established by the legislature. It mandates the Law Enforcement Training Board to provide training for all newly- appointed chiefs of city police departments and towns having a metropolitan police department. The program includes media relations, accounting for funds, policy making, discipline and other administrative areas. The course may also be taken by town marshals, deputy chiefs or other high-level administrative officers of a department.
