From the Desk of the Executive Director

Yes, the rumor is true.  Beginning in 2009 the annual in-service training requirement will be changed to the following:

  • * The minimum number of hours will be raised to 24 hours.
  • * At a minimum, two (2) of these hours must be in the subject of firearms.
  • * At a minimum, two (2) of these hours must be in the subject of physical tactics and the use of force.
  • * At a minimum, two (2) of these hours must be in the subject of police vehicle operation.

This does not change the other mandated requirements that are separate from the rules in 250 IAC 2-7.  Keep your eyes on the website for more details.

We now have three (3) podcasts available on our website.  The subject matters include:

1.      Information for officers preparing to arrive at the Academy for Basic training.
2.      Information relative to physical fitness.
3.      Information on instructor certification and the Instructor Development Course.

Kudos to Tim Underwood, Information Specialist, who produces and serves as host for these podcasts.  There will be more added on a regular basis and you will be able to count future ones towards your annual in-service training requirement.  Again, keep your eyes on our website for more details.
