Executive Director Rusty Goodpaster

Happy New Year.  I hope everyone was able to enjoy the holidays and we wish you a great 2012.

As many of you know Captain Perry Hollowell retired at the end of 2011.  Perry had served over twenty years here at ILEA and his knowledge and leadership will be missed.  Perry accepted the job as Chief of Police in his hometown of Clinton, Indiana where he got his start in law enforcement.  If you are ever in that part of the state I am sure he would love to hear from you.
We expect to name our new Captain in the next few weeks.  We will announce the decision on our website.  Once that announcement is made we will be hiring a Law Enforcement Training Specialist.  If you or someone you know would be interested please continue to check our website as we will inform everyone of the job posting.  You must apply through the State’s system and we will include instructions in our posting.

We have what we think is exciting news.  We issued Kindles to our current Basic class students.  The Kindles contain the printed materials previously distributed to the students.   We believe this will be more effective and efficient for student use and will save the ILEA several thousands of dollars in printing costs.  The students will be able to download the handouts and any notes they may have made on to a flash drive to take with them as reference material.  Once we are sure they function as we like then we will begin to issue Kindles for In-service classes as well.

The staff is currently producing our End of the Year Report.  Once it is completed we will post it on our website for your perusal.  The staff is also working with the Law Enforcement Training Board to develop our next Strategic Plan.  We completed one in 2007 so it is time to do another one for the next 5 – 10 year vision of the LETB/ILEA.  That will be available on our website once completed as well.

We are unaware of any major legislation that will affect training here in Indiana at this time.  If you hear of something please notify us as we are not always aware of Bills that may be introduced that would affect the training of Indiana’s law enforcement officers.

Enjoy the rest of the winter and don’t forget we are only a few weeks away from Spring Training!

Stay safe and again we wish you and yours a great 2012.

Rusty Goodpaster,
ILEA Executive Director
