Adopt-A-Highway Program
INDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program helps significantly reduce the roadside trash problem. This improves the look of Indiana's communities and helps uncover our state's natural heritage.
INDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program coordinates with community groups that provide highway trash and litter pick-up in local communities. INDOT area coordinators supply safety training, vests, road work signs, and trash bags to help get the job done. Local community organizations provide the manpower. In return, INDOT will place a sign on the portion of highway these groups adopt for this worthwhile effort.
More than 1,000 groups are already making this program a success across Indiana. The Adopt-A-Highway program helps recover Indiana's natural heritage, but it can't be done without your help.
If you are a member of an organization seeking volunteering opportunities, look into the Adopt-A-Highway program. Cleaning up the interstates, state roads and U.S. routes in your area will significantly improve the aesthetics and morale of your community.
Qualifications
Groups are asked to clean their designated area four times each year, including once in early spring and in late fall.Support From INDOT
INDOT's Adopt-A-Highway coordinators supply safety training, safety vests, work signs and trash bags during pick ups. All your group has to donate is time.
Recognition
In addition to the signs erected with your group's name, individuals gain a sense of accomplishment by improving the environment.Related Links

Adopt-A-Highway coordinators are located in 31 INDOT sub-district offices. The offices are divided by district and can be found under that heading. They are:
- Northern Indiana: LaPorte and Fort Wayne District
- Central Indiana: Crawfordsville and Greenfield District
- Southern Indiana: Seymour and Vincennes District
