group shotINDOT operates the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Supportive Services program in conjunction with its DBE program, which is funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and administered by INDOT’s Economic Opportunity Division. As required by federal law, INDOT’s Supportive Services program promotes increased participation of DBEs on federally funded highway and bridge contracts. The primary purpose of the DBE Supportive Services program is to provide training, assistance, and services to firms that are certified in the DBE program within the State of Indiana.

The DBE Supportive Services program provides many excellent resources, including individual business assistance, intended to help DBEs excel and graduate from the DBE Program.  The program offers a variety of services and resources to facilitate the firms' development into viable, self-sufficient businesses that are capable of competing for and performing on federally assisted highway and bridge projects.

What INDOT DBE Supportive Services Provides

The Supportive Services program provides training and other assistance to Indiana based firms to assist those firms to become ready, willing and able to participate on INDOT highway and bridge projects.  The DBE Supportive Services program offers resources to facilitate the development of viable, self-sufficient businesses that are capable of competing for and performing on federally assisted highway contracts.  INDOT’s Entrepreneurial Development Institute (EDI) provides specialized management and related training to selected construction and design firms with potential for developing in highway and related construction markets.  The Statewide Indiana DBE Initiative (SINDI) provides DBEs and program eligible minority and women firms in construction and related fields the opportunity to learn more about how to do business with INDOT.  For more information about DBE Supportive Services programs, please contact the Supportive Services Manager.

Upcoming Events & Training

training shotThe statewide Indiana DBE Initiative (SINDI) is a statewide initiative that provides DBE firms and potential DBE firms with an opportunity to learn:

  • Opportunities to do business with INDOT and how to create your business future as the economy recovers.
The economy is a work in progress.  You must design your own future; the economy does not create it for you.   The INDOT market with its $1 billion annual program is an important opportunity for DBE firms.  Major Moves funding will peak in 2012.  What is your vision for the next 12 months and beyond?
  • How to develop your thinking skills so that you can make a difference in the bottom line.
Many businesses fail because the owner cannot articulate a vision of the business’ mission and purpose.  Thinking is a critical component of conceiving and motivating a plan for business success.  You will learn how to become a “big picture” thinker and how to harness creative thinking.
  • How to increase your profitability by practicing proven business principles.

Certified DBEs and Non-certified Women and Minority Construction Owners should participate in SINDI.

Statewide Indiana DBE Initiative (SINDI):
INDOT will provide three-day management, technology and construction workshops during June and July in central, northern and southern Indiana to select Indiana-based heavy highway firms that have the desire to perform in heavy highway work with INDOT.
