State Road 61 Monroe City

State Road 61 in the town of Monroe City was reconstructed from the junction of S.R. 241 to School House Road at the Blue Jean Center in the 2014 and 2015 construction seasons. The project was completed in October 2015.

The project included the installation of an extensive new storm water drainage system, removing approximately two inches of existing roadway, re-establishing the sub-base material under the road, repaving the roadway, and installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps, sidewalks and gutters. The purpose of the project was to aid the town of Monroe City with resolving drainage issues.

INDOT contractor’s closed S.R. 61 from the junction of S.R. 241 in Monroe City to S.R. 57 in Petersburg for the installation of the storm drainage system. Traffic was detoured onto S.R. 241, U.S. Route 50 and S.R. 57.

The first phase of installation was between the Five Points intersection at the Blue Jean Center to 9th Street in Monroe City. Once this work was complete, crews closed the section between 9th Street and 6th Street. The final phase included the area between 6th Street and S.R. 241.

The construction contract was awarded to Milestone Contractors, Inc. of Indianapolis, based on the low bid of $3.5 million.
