On May 2, 1988, the Family Wellness Helpline was launched as a statewide comprehensive information and referral program through the Indiana State Department of Health’s Maternal and Child Health Division. The Family Wellness Helpline was designed to assist in promoting Maternal and Child Health Services, WIC Services and support other programs and services throughout the state. In 1998, the Family Wellness Helpline became what has since been known as the Indiana Family Helpline.
The mission of the Indiana Family Helpline is to link Indiana families with a network of services within their local communities; state agencies; organizations; and individuals providing health care or other services.
The primary focus of the Indiana Family Helpline is to address questions relating to social service related concerns of callers throughout the state of Indiana. Callers’ needs are assessed by trained Communication Specialists, referred to the appropriate community resource(s) accessed through the county-specific computer resource database that presently contains over 10,000 resources.
