Cultural History / Social Studies

Learn about the cause and effect of slavery and the creation of the Underground Railroad. Experience the escaping slaves' challenges, as well as those who helped and hurt their journey to freedom. During hands-on activities, students will investigate the routes of the Underground Railroad and the perils of the journey while learning terms and individuals associated with it.

Using a pendulum, Jean Bernard Leon Foucault is remembered as the first man to demonstrate the rotation of the earth without using anything outside of the Earth, such as the sun or stars, as a point of reference. The museum houses a Foucault Pendulum.
