Fourth Grade Frontiers

FourthGradeLogo_sm.jpgAttention Fourth Grade Teachers
Are you looking for a fun field trip that reinforces what you are teaching and meets Indiana Academic Standards? Fourth Grade Frontiers: The Indiana Story is a new program at the Indiana State Museum designed specifically for fourth grade classes and their teachers.

New for the 2006-2007 school year the program meets Indiana Academic Standards that emphasize Indiana history and science. All Fourth Grade Frontier visitors will receive an Indiana State Museum Passport, featuring exhibit-related questions and a scavenger hunt that will help fourth grade teachers reinforce what the students are learning in the classroom. The great thing is, it does not matter what time of the school year you visit the museum there is always something relevant to what you are teaching at the moment. And teachers can take away a poster set to continue the museum learning experience in the classroom.

Indiana Academic Standards
The Indiana State Museum is a great place to bring a class for a fun and educational field trip. The museum meets fourth-grade Indiana Academic Standards in:

  • Social Studies and Indiana History
  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • English/Language Arts

The Museum Passport leads students through all of the museum’s galleries. At designated passport stations students can emboss a stamp on their Museum Passports to track the progress of the journey through the galleries. There is also a scavenger hunt in the Museum Passport that helps the student seek out facts in the exhibits.

Indiana History Poster Sets
As a bonus, each fourth grade teacher will receive a set of posters to take back to the classroom. These posters. feature gallery exhibits that reflect specific time periods in Indiana’s past. These posters will serve as a learning aid and will be a visual reminder of the experience.
