2009 Arbor Day Celebration
April 24 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Celebrate trees!
Let’s honor our leafy friends at the annual Arbor Day Celebration at the IndianaStateMuseum on April 24. With some help from the museum, IndyParks and the Indiana Urban Forest Council, learn what trees do for us and what we can do for them.
Full of fast-paced, interactive education, visitors learn about conservation and how to become more ecologically aware. Live demonstrations include Tim Womick of Tree Family, Johnny Appleseed and special guest Rupert Boneham of Survivor. Interesting trivia and take-home crafts ensure a memorable experience. Students may also plant a tree, meet an expert in dendrochronology—the study of tree rings—and visit the exhibit Footprints: Balancing Nature’s Diversity to round out a nature-filled day.
Don’t miss the proclamation from the Mayor's office to honor Indianapolis being named a Tree City USA. Indianapolis has received this designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation for over 20 years. Regional winners of the poster contest will be awarded following the proclamation reading.
Free for members and included with museum admission for non-members.
Space is limited so call 317.232.1637 to register your class for this exciting educational event.
