Life on the Whitewater Canal - Fall 2008
Travel back to Indiana's canal era by riding on a replica of the canal boats that once dominated transportation into the Whitewater Valley. Students will glide through the only remaining canal aqueduct in Indiana and, depending on water levels, a newly restored lock on the Whitewater Canal.  They also can visit a gristmill, see a fire-pit cooking demonstration, taste an old-fashioned snack, listen to stories about the canal, take part in a heritage walk, and create an 1830s craft to take home.  The cost is $4 per person.

For more information on school programs and Indiana Academic Standards met at Whitewater Canal State Historic Site, contact Jim Hamill, cultural administrator, at 765.647.6512 or Anne Fairchild, Eastern Region education coordinator, at 812.273.4531 or by e-mail at afairchild@dnr.in.gov.
