Indiana Merchant Power Plants

Currently, there are nine merchant power plants operating in the state of Indiana. Seven of the facilities provide electricity to the wholesale market, one provides power to Dayton Power and Light in Ohio, one provides electricity to both PSI and to Wabash Valley Power Association, and one provides electricity to Indianapolis Power and Light. Plants constructed by Whiting Clean Energy and by Sugar Creek as of 2002. On May 5, 2004 the IURC revoked the certificate of need for the Putnam Energy project.

Other Indiana state government agencies, such as the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), are also working to address the issues raised by merchant power plants in Indiana.

For additional information, visit the Utility Rules Workgroup - Indiana Clean Air Interstate Rule (CAIR) and Indiana Mercury Rule (CAMR)  section of IDEM's website.
