Clerk of the Appellate Courts
200 W. Washington St.
216 State House
Indianapolis, IN 46204
Welcome and thanks for your interest in Indiana’s second highest court, the Court of Appeals of Indiana. The court’s long, proud history is rooted in Indiana’s commitment to constitutional government and the rule of law. I am proud to say that every one of our judges, senior judges, lawyers and administrative staff is fully committed to those values and to serving all people by providing equal justice under law.
We are also committed to the principles of open government, which is why our website provides access to all of the court’s opinions and to our online docket, so you can track the progress of all appeals. You can also watch oral arguments live as they happen, via the web, or watch archived files of previous arguments at your convenience.
We are a busy court, partly because the Indiana Constitution assures the right to one appeal. Our 2012 Annual Report (also available on the web) shows that we disposed of 3,510 cases that year, which included 2,143 written opinions and 78 oral arguments.
About half of those oral arguments occurred not in our Statehouse courtroom but at high schools, colleges, law schools and other venues across Indiana. These “Appeals on Wheels” arguments involve real cases, real issues and real arguments before the court. Most importantly, they offer a unique opportunity to observe the Court of Appeals at work without requiring public travel to Indianapolis.
I hope you will take some time to surf our site to learn more about the court’s history, its judges, how it operates and more. Thanks again for visiting and please accept the court’s best wishes.
Nancy H. Vaidik, Chief Judge
