Steele: Federal Grants Help Hoosiers Stay Warm
State program receives aid, helps heat low-income homes

STATEHOUSE — Today State Sen. Brent Steele (R-Bedford) encouraged eligible Hoosiers in Senate District 44 to apply for financial heating assistance. The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) recently announced that the state has received more than $13 million in additional assistance to heat low-income homes.

Those in Senate District 44 wishing to apply for this aid may call the IHCDA at 1-800-872-0371. Residents may also visit or call the Community Action Agency at 812-372-8407 in Jackson County; 812-339-3447 in Monroe County and 812-849-4457 in Lawrence, Orange and Washington Counties.

Last year, Indiana provided over 157,000 low-income homes with financial heating assistance. This is roughly 45 percent of over 351,000 eligible households in the state.

According to Steele, this grant will allow more Hoosiers to receive aid in way of heating their homes. The additional funding was awarded to states based on average temperature, block grant allocations and type of heating sources used throughout a state.

Steele serves Senate District 44, which includes Lawrence and Jackson counties as well as portions on Monroe, Orange and Washington counties.
