Senators push Ford’s bills
President Pro Tem asks committee chairs to
shepherd ailing colleague’s 2008 proposals
(STATEHOUSE) -- Colleagues of State Sen. David C. Ford today signed on as second authors and began pushing his 2008 legislative proposals through committees.
Ford is hospitalized and fighting cancer, family members confirmed yesterday. The four-term lawmaker was admitted to Ft. Wayne’s Lutheran Hospital last week after suffering from flu-like symptoms. He underwent surgery on Friday, according to a statement released by his Statehouse office.
In Ford’s absence and with his approval, President Pro Tem David C. Long asked chairs of senate committees to name themselves as co-authors and advance Ford’s bills if possible.
“We’ve remained in near-constant contact with Senator Ford and his family,” Long said. “We’ve assured them we will carry on his battles here, while they fight the good fight on the home front.”
Co-authors are now shepherding six of Ford’s bills through the Indiana General Assembly:
Senate Bill 188 further protects businesses and consumers from price fixing
Senate Bill 189 allows county governments to support local 4-H organizations. It also requires the reporting of contagious diseases among animals within 48 hours of detection.
Senate Bill 190 updates Indiana law concerning agriculture and animals.
Senate Bill 197 excludes utilities, medical insurance and rent from special treatment within government contracts granted to certain businesses.
Senate Bill 257 allows for the electronic filing of a contractor’s hold or mechanic’s lien because of an outstanding payment which could result in foreclosure.
Senate Bill 314 keeps confidential any individual’s financial or application information submitted to the Indiana Department of Agriculture.
