The Rural Capacity Grant program was developed to assist rural Indiana communities in their efforts to expand local capacity by means of grassroots community development efforts, partnership building, and leveraging regional resources. There are two types of Rural Capacity Grants: Rural Entrepreneurial Support, and Workforce and Educational Development. Since 2007, Rural Capacity Grants have had the following impact on rural Hoosier communities:

Rural Capacity Grants for Entrepreneurial Support

  • 5819 participants in RCG funded programs
  • 490 business plans developed
  • 57 new businesses opened
  • 20 jobs created
  • $272,250 additional dollars leveraged from bank donations and loans
  • 2.2 million in private investor funds

Rural Capacity Grants Workforce and Educational Development

  • 5065 participants in RCG funded programs
  • 254 post-secondary college credits awarded
  • 177 participants receiving interview
  • 160 jobs attained

Due to funding constraints, the Office of Community and Rural Affairs is not accepting applications for Rural Capacity Grants at this time.  For more information, please contact Geoff Schomacker at gschomacker@ocra.in.gov.
