Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor

OUCC > Electric > Key Cases By Utility > Frankfort Municipal Electric Rates Frankfort Municipal Electric Rates

The City of Frankfort and the OUCC have reached a settlement agreement on the city's electric rate request. Base electric rates would rise by 8.63 percent under the agreement, compared to the 10.09 percent request in the original proposal.

The OUCC filed testimony (Ramaraj and Boerger) in support of the agreement on March 29, 2017.

Any settlement agreement filed with the IURC may be accepted, denied, or modified.

The OUCC issued a November 28, 2016 news release to invite consumer comments in the case. An IURC public field hearing was held on December 5, 2016 in Frankfort.

Frankfort's current base electric rates were approved in 1997.

Electric utilities can also adjust rates due to changes in wholesale power costs. Those costs can only be recovered on a dollar-for-dollar basis. They include OUCC review and IURC approval before taking effect.

As of July 2016, Frankfort's electric rates rank third-lowest among the 14 electric utilities the IURC regulates.
